No-Gi BJJ in Reading
Grappling taught from the ground up — position, control, escapes and submissions, several nights a week.

The discipline
What no-gi bjj training involves
Brazilian jiu-jitsu is the art of controlling another person without striking them. No-gi means training in shorts and a rash guard rather than a kimono, so grips are on the body and everything moves faster — which is exactly why it transfers so directly into MMA.
Our grappling programme is the busiest part of the timetable, with adult, ladies, teen and junior sessions across the week and a men's gi class on Saturday mornings. Beginners and experienced grapplers train in the same rooms, paired sensibly by the coach.
What you'll learn
- Positional hierarchy: guard, half guard, side control, mount, back
- Escapes and how to stay calm underneath pressure
- Guard retention and guard passing
- Takedowns and getting the fight to the mat
- Submissions: chokes, arm locks and leg attacks
- Scrambling and transitions between positions
- How to roll safely and productively

Questions
No-Gi BJJ questions
Brazilian jiu-jitsu trained in shorts and a rash guard rather than a kimono. Because there's no fabric to grip, control comes from body positioning, underhooks, head position and pressure instead of collar and sleeve grips. The result is faster, more scrambly grappling that transfers directly into MMA and into any situation where nobody is conveniently wearing a heavy jacket. It's also the easiest combat sport to start safely, because you can train at full resistance from early on without absorbing strikes.
