MMA Classes in Reading
Striking, wrestling and grappling taught as one connected skill set, in a dedicated combat-sports facility in Earley, Reading.

The discipline
What mma training involves
Mixed martial arts brings together three worlds — striking, wrestling and ground grappling — and asks how they connect. A punch changes the distance, a level change changes the position, and a scramble decides whether the exchange finishes standing or on the mat.
At One Mission, MMA is taught the way it's actually learned: broken into components, drilled slowly, then reassembled. You'll spend as much time understanding why a technique works as repeating it, and the coaching assumes that most people in the room are training for themselves rather than for a fight card.
What you'll learn
- Stance, guard and movement under pressure
- Punch, kick, knee and elbow mechanics with MMA gloves
- Level changes, takedowns and takedown defence
- Clinch work and control against the wall
- Ground positions: guard, half guard, side control, mount and back
- Getting back to your feet safely
- Submissions and submission defence
- Conditioning built into rounds rather than bolted on

Beginner guidance
You don't need experience, fitness or equipment to start. Tell the coach it's your first class and they'll pair you sensibly and keep an eye on you throughout.
If the full MMA class feels like a big first step, start with Beginners Kickboxing on a Tuesday or Saturday, or our beginners-to-intermediate No-Gi BJJ on a Monday, then add MMA once the basics feel familiar.
Your first session is free — for adults and children alike. Message us and we'll book you in.

Questions
MMA questions
No. MMA sessions are taught in layers so that beginners work on fundamentals while more experienced members build detail on top of the same technique. If you've never trained, you'll spend your first sessions on stance, movement, basic strikes and how to move safely on the ground — the same things everyone else started with. Tell the coach it's your first class and they'll pair you with someone reliable. Many of our MMA regulars had no background in any martial art when they started, and it takes far less time than people expect to stop feeling lost.
